Hello, Bluebird Families!
Our field trip to the pumpkin patch at Joe’s Trees was so incredible! On the drive there, we noticed beautiful nature all around us. First, we saw a black bear run out of Jefferson National Forest, all the way across 4 lanes of traffic, and into the woods on the other side! It was an amazing sight! We all kept saying, “Wow! We just saw a bear!” We also spotted a beehive, a bird’s nest, huge rocks, cows, and lots of different colored leaves along the way. Once we arrived, we enjoyed a quick snack at the picnic tables. Then we went inside the store, read a story about pumpkins, learned about how pumpkins grow, peeked inside a pumpkin to see all its parts, and examined a big pumpkin vine that grew from a single seed. Did you know that the seeds inside the pumpkin grow along the ridges that you see on the outside of the pumpkin? Next, we headed outside for an exciting hayride to the pumpkin patch. We were very impressed with how big the tractor’s tires were! We each chose our perfect pumpkins and then solved the tricky corn maze together. We wore ourselves out on the big slide and the hay jump! We walked back, had a picnic lunch, watched some sheep in a field, and practiced milking a pretend cow. On the ride back to school, we talked about how tired we were and how we wanted to sleep at rest time. When we returned to school, we were all very helpful with unloading our pumpkins, lunches, water bottles, jackets, and booster seats. Though we were tired from our fun trip, we did not sleep. However, we did enjoy quiet alone time on our towels, looking at books, drawing pictures, and playing quiet individual games. We had never appreciated rest time so much!
We read several pumpkin books this week, like Pumpkin Town, The Pumpkin Book, and 16 Runaway Pumpkins. We also started reading Charlotte’s Web and are enjoying every minute of it!
Thank you for sharing your children with me!
