The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

Bluebirds Week Seven

Hello, Bluebird Famlies!
We enjoyed lots of name activities this week! We traced and wrote our names on paper, used popsicle sticks to write our names in playdough, sculpted our names out of playdough, and built our names with magnetic letters to match our names written on sentence strips. During our calendar time, we are singing our Days of the Week Song and Months of the Year Song with much enthusiasm! We are starting to accurately predict what day and date comes next as we discuss yesterday, today, and tomorrow. This month we started counting popsicle sticks every day to match the date. Next week we will also begin counting pennies for each date. After we master counting by ones for each date, we will begin learning about place value by representing the date with popsicle sticks in bundles of 10 for the tens place and loose popsicle sticks for the ones place. We will also then use dimes and pennies to show each date.

We enjoyed playing with geo boards for the first time this week and had so much fun creating shapes, pictures, letters, and numbers on them. We continue working on recognizing letter names and sounds, as well as number words for 0-10 through matching activities and games. We loved pounding golf tees into a pumpkin and reading From Seed to Pumpkin, in which we learned all about the growing process of pumpkins. Music with Marci on Wednesday and Storytime with Bob on Thursday we hits, as always.

We are very excited about going to the pumpkin patch at Joe’s Trees on Tuesday. If you haven’t sent in your child’s permission slip yet, please do so on Monday. Please remember to leave your child’s booster seat for the field trip when you drop your child off for school on Tuesday.
Thanks for sharing your children with me!
