Hello, Bluebird Families!
We had another great week in the Bluebirds class! We played lots of games to match letters, identify opposites and rhyming words, identify words that begin with each letter and sound, tell time to the hour, and count and classify many different objects. We read some silly picture books together like, Three Billy Goats Gruff, Jamberry, Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type, Pete the Cat and the Tip Top Treehouse, The Library and Nothing But a Pig. We also enjoyed testing our listening and imagination skills with 2 short chapter books this week: Nate the Great and the Stolen Base and Flat Stanley. We had fun exploring light, shadow, and color with the light table and colored blocks and marbles. We also used the light table to examine x-rays of animals. The children were fascinated by the varying bone structures of different animals and began to speculate about why that might be. (I think we will research this further!) We dug for fossils and found real shark teeth! We wrote about and drew pictures of our discoveries and took them home. (If they haven’t showed you their fossils already, please ask about them! Each child chose a safe spot in their backpack for their own fossils.) We used our cutting and gluing skills to create our names out of colorful bits of construction paper. We also played in sensory bins with kinetic sand and bulldozers on Monday and the water table with soapy water, pipes, funnels, and scoops on Friday. I loved seeing the children problem solve at the water table and even heard a friend exclaim, “Why is the water moving that way? I want it to move this way!” Then he adjusted his plastic pipes into a different formation to see if he could make the water move the way he wanted!
I’m looking forward to another fun week with your children! We will begin many apples activities in preparation for our field trip to the apple orchard at Doe Creek Farm on Monday, September 30th. A permission slip will be coming home soon with more details.
Thanks,
Anna
