Dear Brilliant Butterflies Families,
We have had so much fun learning about the human body in our class over the past few weeks! We learned about different organs and body systems through art, games, and books. We started with talking about germs and the proper way to wash our hands. We covered our hands with glitter and washed it off in the bathroom, while singing the hand washing song. We learned that germs are so small that we need a microscope to see them, and that they can be different shapes. We learned about the bones in our hands by doing x-ray art. We also made a model of our blood and spent some time exploring a human body model. We traced our bodies on large paper and have been making different organs to put on them. We made our brain, stomach, heart, spinal cord, lungs, and intestines, and today we put them all together! They look amazing!
We have also been learning about the 5 senses and enjoyed doing experiments and activities to learn about each one. The class favorite was the taste test! Several of the children decided that they liked lemons and limes, while others thought that oranges or apples were the best.
On one of the Fridays, we took a break from the human body to celebrate our 100th day of school! We celebrated with a 100 things scavenger hunt, 100 things show and tell, and art using the number 100!
The next Friday, we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday and had fun dressing up in Dr. Seuss themed clothes or pajamas. We made Cat in the Hat masks and had fun playing games and sensory bins together.
The children have been having so much fun playing in our hospital dramatic play center. They have been taking turns being patients and doctors, talking on the phones to “order medicine from CVS”, and scheduling appointments on the clipboards. It is so much fun to see new friendships blossoming and see the children delving deeper into their play.
We going to begin switching gears to start learning about outer space during this week. We will see where the children’s interests take us and go from there.
Thank you all for sharing your wonderful children with us.
Hannah, Wynne, and Shelby 🙂
