The Brilliant Butterflies spent the last two weeks preparing for and hosting the class art show! The children and teachers had so much fun learning about and creating art inspired by famous artists. We learned about pointillism with “Dot Seurat” and created a class butterfly painting using our fingerprints. You can find it on the bulletin board in the hallway. We tried out splatter painting when we studied “Action Jackson Pollock”. This was definitely a favorite among the children! We created our own version of Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night, using shaving cream marbling, paper, and glitter. We painted poppies and petunia’s inspired by Georgia O’Keefe. We made paper collages inspired by Matisse and a hanging art piece inspired by Chihuly’s hanging glass sculptures The children also enjoyed making sculptures with both clay and pipe cleaners. Thank you so much to those of you who came to visit the art show!
We spent the last few days before fall break talking about what we are thankful for and creating art with friends. We played games and acted out ways to be a good friend and be kind to others. We also had a fun playing musical instruments to different beats and rhythms.
When we come back to school, we will be moving into a new unit focusing on maps, cultures, and traveling. Our dramatic play center has been transformed into an airport, and we have lots of fun ideas to learn about the world!
