We had a short but lovely week last week in our class with our Farmer’s Market! The children enjoyed participating in many activities and reading books relating to farms and fruits and vegetables. We started our week with painting some scenery to create our own farm in class. The children painted a big red barn, haystacks, and a sun. They also made corn on the cob, which is “growing” in our cornfield. Each child used collage materials to create a petal for our giant sunflowers. The afternoon children painted lots of fruits and vegetables to sell in our farmer’s market. Many children enjoyed playing with the cash register and pretend money, and they even wrote receipts for each other! Make sure to let your children show you around this week.
We also did some science experiments last week! The first one, used milk and food coloring in a bowl. The children dipped q-tips in dish soap and watched the colors swirl around and separate. It was beautiful and amazing! The other experiment was mixing baking soda and apple colored vinegar to create fizzy and bubbly “explosions”!
The children also worked with Shelby to learn some sign language to the song Old MacDonald had a Farm. We had lots of muddy and wet fun playing outside with our friends this week. Thank you to all of you for bringing boots or water shoes and for allowing your children to get messy at school. They are learning so much and having so much fun outside, that I promise your extra laundry is worth it!
As always, thank you for sharing your lovely children with us!
Sincerely,
Hannah, Wynne, and Shelby 🙂
