It was a wordy week in the Kindergarten Superstars. It was Communication Week and we covered many interesting topics, including the guiding question “How do you think people communicated long-distance before cell phones, computers, and cars?”. The class had some interesting answers such as “walk or run to their house”, “drive a wagon” or “write a letter and send it on a wagon”.
This week we also discussed various communication skills including using kind words, negotiating differences of opinion and desires, making good eye contact, and many others. The kids really enjoyed using puppets to show what they learned about communication gone wrong, and then changing the scenario to show great communication and negotiating skills.
The class also delved into the world of code as they used “invisible ink” and learned how to decipher Morse code. The sounds of “beep, beep, beep” as they made the dots and dashes sounded through the room throughout the week and they truly enjoyed it. In other news, the children were flabbergasted by the wonder that is the typewriter and rotary phone. They found using these items, especially the rotary phone, rather confusing, but fun.
Otherwise the week was spent spelling sight-words, playing sight-word Bingo, working on drawing their two dimensional shapes, and creating another group painting. It was a full, but great, week. See you next week for Communication Week Part 2!
