The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

Friendly Foxes Week 13

Dear Friendly Fox Families,

We had a fun week last week of continuing to learn about nocturnal animals and forests.  The children practiced their nocturnal animals song and have been loving to try to snap their fingers! We studied owls, raccoons, and hedgehogs.  The children painted with feathers, marbles, and paintbrushes this week.  They made nocturnal animals out of play dough and with pattern blocks.  They practiced writing their names and letters and numbers in shaving cream and glittery salt trays.  They built spinning machines with gears and hospitals with blocks.  They have been taking care of pets in our vet clinic, dressing up as fairies, and looking for clue as detectives.  It is so fun to see new friendships emerge and so much creative group play!

This week, a new friend joined our class and the children were so excited to greet him! We talked about how we can welcome him into our class, and they all did.  We are so happy to have a new student to join us!

We also had a fun kids’ night on Friday.  The children played with winter themed sensory activities and games.  Siblings attended and were so sweet to each other.  They watched a movie and ate lots of popcorn. It was a great night!

This coming week, we are going to shift our focus to learning about maps and continents.  We will be giving each student a “passport” and letting them collect stamps throughout the week after completing activities based on a country from different continents.  We do not have time to learn about every country, but will briefly touch on several.  If you have traveled to or are knowledgeable about another country and would like to come into our class sometime this week or next in the morning, we would love to have “special visitors” to present about other countries.  We did this last year, and the children loved seeing photographs, books, artifacts, and learning a few words in other languages from our families.  Ms. Lauren, from the Honeybees class will be presenting about her time living in Australia on one of the days.  Please let me know if you are interested in coming in and we will be happy to set up a time.

Thanks so much,

Hannah, Wynne, and Sadee 🙂
