Hello, Friendly Foxes!
Last week we had a wonderful time wrapping up our Winter Animal Behavior unit and learning all about caves and bats. We continued to play with some of our Winter sensory play materials and even made a class book about what we would do if we were animals in the Winter. You can find it next to our calendar if you would like to read it with your child. As always, we enjoyed Music time with Marci and Storytime with Bob.
We constructed a cave in our reading area and the children were thrilled to go spelunking inside with their special gear and clipboards. They played beautifully together here. We talked all about how caves are formed, including a small scientific demonstration. We read books and looked at photos together, learned about various types of caves and the formations inside. We made our own clay caves with tiny stalactites and stalagmites which we will paint this week and the children can bring them home. We are enjoying being cave detectives!
We learned a lot about bats! We read books and looked at lots of wonderful pictures of them. We learned that they can live in many parts of the world and on our wall now hangs an example of the comparison of the largest and smallest bat species – wow! We added a new bat poem to our special journals and made our own mother and pup bat crafts which are hanging in our doorway.
This coming week we will be doing an Author Study all about Jan Brett. We will be reading at least one of her books per day and then doing lots of fun activities associated with each. At the end of the week we will write a letter to her and hope to receive one in return!
If anyone has or can collect empty single serve applesauce or yogurt cups we hope to use them for a craft later this week.
Thank you for everything!
Wynne, Sadee, and Lori
