Hello, Friendly Foxes!
We have had a lovely time learning all about the Arctic region this week. We have read several wonderful books on the subject and looked at the Arctic region on the globe. We also discussed how scientists are reporting that the magnetic North Pole is moving for the first time in 780,000 years! We learned about the animals that live in the region, including taking an up-close look at lemmings (similar to the pikas we learned about but not related) and the cotton grass they eat. We made our own Arctic Foxes with thick Winter coats, wrapped our pinecone Snowy Owls, watercolored majestic Narwhals, painted our baby Harp Seals, and gave our little Lemmings plenty of cotton grass to eat. We played with lots of Arctic animals in all kinds of icy sensory materials, played lots of fun math, alphabet, movement and memory games. We love feeding alphabet soup to Mr. Munch! We also got to trace our feet inside a life-sized Polar Bear footprint.
We enjoyed reading a few more Jan Brett books and then we voted for our favorite one. The children agreed that they loved the way that the bears in “The Three Snow Bears” saved Aloo-ki’s dog team from drifting away in the ice. We brainstormed ideas about what to say in our letter to her. On Monday, we will make cards for her and mail our class letter to her!
We had lots of fun in Music with Ms. Marci, and enjoyed our Storytime with Bob.
This week we have lots of fun activities planned while studying the Antarctic region. We will enjoy some friendship activities for Valentine’s Day, and celebrate the 100th day of school on Friday! We will also have Show and Tell on Friday.
Thank you for all you do!
Wynne, Sadée, and Lori (and Hannah)
