Hello Friendly Foxes!
We have had a wonderfully exciting week at school. We received the best surprise: Jan Brett wrote back to us! She sent a beautiful package in the mail to us, full of lovely items for us to share with one another. The children (and teachers) are absolutely delighted.
We spent the week studying the Owls of Virginia. We have taken up close looks at several species including the Eastern Screech owl, the Barred owl, the Barn Owl, the Great Horned owl and the Saw Whet owl. We have read books about them, listened to their various calls, played with some tiny owls in sensory materials, played owl games and made lots of our own owl crafts. The children are thoroughly enjoying this unit, so we will continue it into next week and explore other species. We are expecting a special owl guest speaker on Wednesday, and we will even be dissecting our own real owl pellets!
As always, thank you to our music teacher Marci and our storyteller Bob.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Wynne, Sadée, Lori (and Hannah)
