We spent a lot of time trying out different kinds of science experiments and studies last week. We started the week looking at and identifying different kinds of rocks. We also created special recycled materials art collages for Earth Day. We delved into the study of plants and seeds by planting pea seeds in a bag to watch the sprout. We also planted some zinnia seeds in our own miniature fairy gardens. We made fairies, tiny snails, and planted seeds in our own fairy garden cup. We will be send these home later in the week. We made collages using real flower petals to show the parts of a plant. Some of us even wrote the labels on our pictures.
For the Science Expo we brought out some of our favorite science experiments to share with our families. Some of our class favorites were baking soda and vinegar chemistry, a fossil dig, owl pellet identifying bones, and raindrops through a shaving cream “cloud”. We have been watching our painted lady caterpillars and noticing how quickly they are growing! The children have been very interested in worms lately, so we will continue learning more about spring and the things we are noticing.
I will be posting a parent teacher conference sign up sheet later this week, and emailing out your child’s progress report. We teachers are so proud of each and every one of the children in our class. It has been a great year! In the next week we will start gearing up for the class play which will be on May 22!
Thanks so much,
Hannah, Wynne, and Sadee
