The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

Friendly Foxes :: Week Seven

Hello, Friendly Fox families!
What a wonderful week of learning all about farms, harvests and Autumn we’ve had. We have been learning so much about why farms are important, such as how this is where a lot of our food comes from. We have learned about how different farm equipment works, have read some wonderful books about how farmers care for their animals, how food is grown, how animals take care of their babies, and of course some silly books like “Click Clack Moo” and “Giggle Giggle Quack.” The children are playing so well, kindly, and creatively together. We are so pleased with how well they are communicating with one another.
We are enjoying decorating our room with farm materials. We painted the big red barn together and then discussed how interesting cows are and then made our own cows for the barn. We enjoyed adjusting them until they could stand up on their clothes pin legs! We painted some giant green paper together and turned it into a corn patch. We made some wonderful recycled material corn and stamped some corn kernels on using Lego. We thought that was pretty great! We learned about how well chickens take care of their eggs and we made our own chickens with babies tucked under their wings. We played a fun egg number and shape matching game as well. We built some fences using lots of different materials which was a fun balancing and STEM activity for us. We read a book about growing your own food and we learned a fun vegetable song. We love singing it and we added it to our special journals. We read a farm equipment book and then we played in our new giant corn sensory box with some recycled milk carton silo grain returns and we loved this a lot! We played with some farm vehicles and filled our trucks with grain. We got to write and play in some shaving cream one day and today we got to use teacher markers to draw vegetables and then paint over them with finger paints. We loved this activity! We played in a giant barn with lots of animals, made play dough farm animals, celebrated another birthday and so much more! As always we enjoyed our music class with Miss Marci and our story time with Bob. We are enjoying this wonderful mild weather that we are having and playing outside as much as we can. Next week we will continue our studies of autumn and harvest time and we will have a whole week of apple studies! We have lots of fun and enriching activities planned for this week. Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us!Wynne, Nancy and Christina
