We had a “strong” week learning more about health, particularly about our muscles! We learned about the cardiac muscle — and others — but the students enjoyed doing a cardiac muscle test where they listened to their heart with a stethoscope while resting, then did some running and jumping jacks to listen to their heart while it is hard at work. They had a lot of great observations from this exercise.
The class also has enjoyed listening to the music of our most recent composer that they’ve been learning about — Scott Joplin. They really seem to enjoy the ragtime sound!
For math, the class participated in “Small Business Tuesday” where the students had to work with printed money and run their own business for the morning… boy were they surprised at the cost of stuffy sitting for while they were at work! They were actually indignant to find out it cost extra to drop off two stuffies as opposed to just one. It was great watching their different personalities come out when it came to saving or spending. Some of the class hired their classmates to help them with their business if they thought their classmate was low on money, and some bartered for better pay. They all had to juggle the “stuffy, snack time, business running” life in the classroom that morning, and they did a great job.
Finally, the class enjoyed some time on Friday to share some pictures from their developing years and marvel at how they’ve grown and changed in their 5-6 years.
Next week is going to be a combination of Health Week — Internal Organs, and Ancient Egypt Week, so stay tuned!
