We have had a good week together learning the rhythm of the Children’s Garden day and getting to know each other. For many in our class it is our first group experience, and we are taking our time, reading a lot of books, exploring our classroom, and learning about our school and our families. I brought in two of the chickens that we hatched last May, and we went to visit the rabbit in the Kindergarten classroom. We all want to spend more time with Oreo Cottontail.
We have declared our love for Elephant and Piggie, learned that we change our shoes from inside shoes to outside shoes when we go out, and that we never cross the “honeybee line” without telling Sally and Lauren. We’ve played house and doctor’s office, and learned to sing our welcome song for all the people and animals in the room. We burst in spontaneous circle time dancing when we learned the Bumblebee (Buzz Buzz) Song.
We are talking about what to do when you need help, what to do when another person has a toy you want, and what to do when you are thirsty. Next week we’ll keep doing it. We’ll start introducing new materials, talk more about our families, homes, and siblings, and we’ll start learning a bit about butterflies and metamorphosis. I’m going on a monarch caterpillar hunt on Monday. We have several butterfly habitats at school and would love to experience this in our classroom again. Next week we will join the Friendly Foxes class for Storyteller Bob, and we are having a music teacher come in on Thursdays for a session with each of our classes. Theatre with Joelle starts the next week after school, and we have information about that in the lobby.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. My class email is honeybeesthrees@gmail.com, and I’m usually at school from 8:40 until six. I check email in the morning and then again around two in the afternoon. Lauren and I are both so glad to be back to school with your little people.
