The Honey Bees enjoyed another week of playing, making, reading, and adventuring. We talked about words like solar system and galaxy, created a solar system mobile that we will start putting together tomorrow, and completed our collaborative galaxy mural. The Honey Bees think that space is beautiful. Our 3 D moonscapes will be ready to paint, and our rocket ship needs some final design elements before we can start getting inside and traveling. The children have been using our curved wooden blocks designed to create alphabet shapes to show me the phases of the moon, and they can tell you about the full moon and the “croissant” moon. Our poem for the week is called Blast Off:
Put on your spacesuit/ We’re going to the moon.
Climb aboard the spaceship/ We’re going to blast off soon.
Put on your helmet/ Strap yourself in tight
Check your controls and instruments/ We’re ready for the flight.
Time for your journey/The countdown has begun
Here we go, get ready, get set….5 4 3 2 1.
Your Honey Bee can show you the movements that go along with the poem.
This Thursday we will celebrate Valentine’s Day/Friendship Day with some special red fruit smoothies… just raspberries, strawberries, and organic dark cherries in my blender. The children are welcome to bring Valentines for their friends and I will help them create bags/ mailboxes above their cubbies. I’ll send a name list via email, and I ask that you provide one for each child.. or none at all. Please remember that we don’t do candy at any time at school. The children will take their Valentine bag home at dismissal time to look at their Valentines.
I’ve been looking for ways to show the class where the planets actually are. I’m not sure what time your children get up, but you can find planets in the morning sky these days. I use an app on my phone to identify them, and just after six on Friday morning there were three planets visible from my bed.
