Yes, it was a big one. The Honey Bees got to see his face, his eyes, his palps, and his hairy body. They named him Footwasher when he seemed to be grooming his front foot.
We had a “small” week with many of our friends recovering from illness, and we are starting to notice who is in the class each day and miss our friends when they are absent. We mounted our watercolored handprints on our “We are Safe, We Are Kind” board, and we will add to it this week. Our rules are simple, and we are learning how to get what we need, ask for help, and use our words to keep our room running smoothly. This week we also did a lot of group drawing/writing/mark making with our clipboards, and each child explained to me how metamorphosis happens in caterpillars. We also did a lot of fingerpainting panels that will come together as giant butterfly wings that we will use for a photography project early next week.
We read all the Knuffle Bunny stories this week and have been reading Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes almost daily. We had music on Thursday this week with Marci, and because Bob was on vacation, Lauren sat in Bob’s rocking chair and was Storyteller Lauren, reading us Dragons Love Tacos. Ask your child what happens when Dragon’s eat spicy salsa.
We have two insect projects for Monday, and then we will start talking and playing with apples. We ate some apples from Doe Creek dipped in local honey at snack on Friday. In the coming weeks we will make apple sauce at school… probably several times because I love the process and the peeling and chopping. The kids use a hand cranked peeler, and then we measure how long their peelings are, and everyone loves warm applesauce.
