The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

Honey Bees :: Week Eleven

The Honey Bees have been slinging paint, rolling paint, making their own disco, and letting me paint their feet green. I have to keep reminding myself that we get to keep making art all year because I keep thinking of other projects that we might want to do.

We have been journeying together in the mornings by building buses and cars with our chairs and driving to various destinations. I love this large scale dramatic play as more and more kids want to sit on the bus and add elements to the story. I’m also watching and noting the things that they think they need for the trip…baskets, books, babies, and food!

This week we talked about Monet and Jackson Pollack, and we have a few more artists to talk about before our art show opens on Thursday.  Here is the Jackson Pollack video that we talked about before we made our own.  Today we  built an upcycled sculpture and watched a video about Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.  Remember that your child can dress up like their favorite artist, art supply, or art concept on the art show days. Please invite family and friends to come by and look at the show in each of the classrooms. Room are open at dropoff on Thursday, lunch pickup on Thursday, and 3pm and after on Thursday. The show will be open on Friday morning at drop off time. Please remember that we close at noon on Friday with no aftercare.

We enjoyed our hike across the big field out back to collect osage oranges. Perhaps we’ll try that again this week on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. The children thought it was very far away, and some of us even saw a deer. I think they’d like to bring back more of these good smelling “brains” to play with.

I’m going to do conferences when we return from Thanksgiving break, and I’ll put a sign up sheet up this week.

I’m also wondering if any of you would be interested in subbing in our class sometime. We need a few more people on our sub list these days. I’d be happy to talk to you about it if it seems like something you might like to try.

Big love,

Sally and Lauren
