Dear Honey Bee Families,
These weeks rush by so quickly. I feel like we had an important transitional week of diving into child led relationships with each other. The “newness” is wearing off and we are settling into play. The Honeybees know our simple rules… ” We are safe” and “We are kind” and they are learning how to articulate this in the classroom.
Thank you so much for your Hopes and Dreams. They are up our tree for the remainder of the year. The children have loved having their pictures and their family pictures in the classroom. They have already sparked so many conversations and brought so much comfort.
Thematically we stayed in insect world with our caterpillars and honey bees, and on Friday we started talking about Fall and apples. I wanted it to actually start feeling and looking like Fall…. We tasted three kinds of apples with our honey, and the Cripps Pink was the favorite of the day. They got to see bits of honeycomb in the honey from Cavalier Farm in Pilot. The kindergarten class is going apple picking and will bring us back apples for us to make applesauce together.
At the beginning of the week we got to see the final stages of our caterpillar turning into a chrysalis. They got to see it “wiggling and wiggling” during circle time, and we saw the “sweater” of stripes that dropped off with it’s antennae and eye coverings . We painted our pale green monarch chrysalis and added metallic gold bits to hang on our mobile in the classroom.
We made our first collage self portraits this week. ( A few of us still need to make ours) We are very interested in glue and cutting, and we will continue to introduce materials and art experiences.
Marci played her ukulele for us on Wednesday and is introducing new songs and ways to make music. This week we used rhythm sticks and playsilks. I try to post videos of music class each week on our Instagram if you want to take a peek.
Housekeeping– Thank you so much for everything that you are doing to keep our days running smoothly. Thank you for sending in extra clothes when items are sent home. Extra socks might be a good idea for our extra clothes bags. When you are buying school shoes for your children think about shoes that they can get on and off by themselves. Imagine having ten three year olds!! While we are happy to help them, we are working towards self reliance. Some children also need spoons in their lunchboxes. If you want to use a real spoon that’s great. We are happy to rinse or wipe it off and send it back to you instead of giving them disposables.
