The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

Honey Bees Week Nine

We really enjoyed our week of pumpkins and fall leaves, and I think we aren’t quite done. Can my Honey Bee families collect some beautiful leaves for Tuesday and Wednesday if you have a particularly colorful tree? I’ll be the teacher collecting leaves by the side of the road.  I want to make some natural leaf crowns for all my bees. If you happen to come across some acorns, we would love to have some of those to use as loose parts in our room. We will go on a collecting hike this week to gather natural materials to use in our art unit, and we still want to make leave rubbings with beeswax crayons.

The fall festival was sweet and lovely. We had to divide it over two days and sneak in the outdoor portion on Thursday, but on Friday we enjoyed our fall sensory play in Hannah’s class, pumpkin bowling with Angie and Lauren, and a fall themed scavenger hunt in my room. We created mixed age groups and rotated through these stations before snack time.

I just had to check my calendar because November really starts this week. The Children’s Garden as a whole dives into an art unit for the month of November. My class with learn about Picasso, Pollack, Mondrian, Van Gogh, and Alexander Calder. We will try to figure out what ART is and then make some of our ideas. We’ll paint with cars, rolling pins, and maybe even gravity. We’ll do both individual artwork and some community projects, and you’ll be invited to our art show before Thanksgiving.
