The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

Honeybees :: Flying into Spring

Dear Honeybee families,

We might be approaching our last week focusing on dinosaurs. We have learned so much…and I have learned so much. Next week we’ll talk about paleontology, fossils, and being a dinosaur scientist. My music lovers are going to love dancing to They Might Be Giants.

We have played with dinosaurs, sorted dinos, and made art with our dinosaur models. Our room will be a dinosaur world this week after we fill it with flying dinosaurs. We love our big T Rex and our Stegasaurus, and we have been sorting dinos according to what they eat, carnivores and herbavores.

You may have heard your Honeybee singing The Stegasaurus song.

We’ve also been focused on our aquarium and the arrival of our tadpoles. A lot of us loved touching the frog’s eggs when they arrived. One of our Honeybees from a few years ago gave them to us, so that feels pretty special too. It didn’t take long for us to see little swimming tadpoles.

We have been reading about the life cycle of a frog, and the kids remember when we talked about frogs and hibernation. The warm sun as brought out those frogcicles, and they are laying eggs.

We have been talking about how these aren’t really fish and laughing about their tiny froggy faces. We are watching for their legs to appear. They are eating spinach, romaine, and some fish food. We have also been checking out some of the hitchhikers from our pond bucket. We had a mayfly nymph hatch into a fly, and we have a tiny freshwater snail. There are two other water bugs that we are watching.

This week we’ll each make a kitten from our leftover paper painted in calico colors. Our love for cats and kittens is forever.

We are so happy outdoors, and we got to spend time in the warm sunshine this week. We are playing in the pine boughs in our forest, checking out the blooming things in our garden, and just feeling good running and exploring. Have you heard the story of the blue fox? Our imaginations are growing by leaps and bounds as we inspire each other. We spent much of a circle time and lunchtime taking turns telling our wildest dreams on day this week. We might need to create a book of our dreams.

This coming week school is closed on Friday and the monday after Easter. This coming Monday we are having two little special guests. Baby turtles!

I’m going to leave you with a song. I hope you all keep fiddling in your own style.
