The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

Honeybees :: Week of the Young Child

The Week of the Young Child is the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s annual virtual event celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers, and their families. The NAEYC promotes high quality early education learning by connecting practice, policy, and research.

The Honeybees celebrated Music Monday with a collaborative painting project the color of forsythia, redbuds, robin’s eggs, and unfurling spring leaves created while listening to Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring.

Next up we had Tasty Tuesday and spent the morning making and eating our potato soup. Consensus is that we want to cook more, and one of our first decisions/proclamations as a group was that we liked to eat.

I wonder how they would feel about hummus if they made it?

Here we are headed off camping. Earlier in the spring I stopped pulling the wagon and put this kind of transportation in their hands.

There are just so many things that work better all together.

We found that we all had to hold on it we were going to be able to take turns running underneath and having our friends sing to us.

On Family Friday we opened our Honeybee Theatre and enjoyed some boisterious shows. Sometimes we did not know who was in the show and who was in the audience.

We transformed our Time Machine into a puppet theater.

It’s the only theater I know that you have to have a ticket to go inside and perform. For things like this “tickets” have been a great way for us to learn to take turns. Click over to Instagram to see many more pictures from our week.

We added a new song to our Honeybee Dance Party playlist. We just add in “brothers” for some of the sister lyrics.

This week we are going to make a book about the frog life cycle and talk about farms, baby animals, and animal families. We are also very interested in kites and kitemaking. Does anyone have a kite or two that they would loan us?

Big Honeybee Love!!!!
