The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

Meow Cats :: November 2017

The Meow Cats just keep inspiring people to give us more unicorn and dragon costumes. We are up to four. We never ask for princesses or knights, just mystical creatures. We enjoyed carving Mrs. Fruity into a cat face. We pulled out the seeds and counted them. 380! While some of us were willing to taste pumpkin seeds toasted with butter and salt, the general consensus was that they are very yucky. One meow cat could not even stand the smell. We read lots of pumpkin stories. The kids especially liked the one called Pumpkin Jack, the story of how a Jack-0- lantern decomposed and sprouted new pumpkins in the spring.  We saved some of Mrs. Fruity’s seeds and planted them in some pie pumpkin planters. We’ll see what happens.

We are talking about art this week and next. We are printing, pouring, splattering, rolling, arranging, and recycling this week. We read a story today about a frog named Phillipe in Monet’s garden. I have some stories about famous artists and  will probably show some short videos about the processes these artists used. I’ll link to them in my next letter. We will open our “show” next Thursday at nine. Please bring the family, grandparents, and friends. On Thursday our friends are welcome to dress up as their favorite artist, their favorite work of art, or just something art related.

I’m really putting up a sign up sheet for short conferences tomorrow. I was waiting for the Brilliant Butterflies to finish their conferences, and we are there! Please remember to leave a warm coat, socks, rain boots, a hat, and mittens for your child. We love our outside time, and the weather will be creeping up on us.

We welcomed a new friend to the class this week. I love the way the Meow Cats… and the Brilliant Butterflies… have been so warm and welcoming.
