At the end of the art show each year I have this realization that it isn’t over. We are never done with art. Tomorrow we have our air dry clay sculptures to paint, and if we are going to talk about dragons maybe we should start constructing a giant one out of cardboard boxes. I did want to share some of the videos of Picasso that we watched at school. This was the artist the group was most drawn to during our art unit. We watched several videos of Picasso painting on glass, sculpting in his studio and working on large scale drawing and painting. I’m trying to get us a projector so that we can see artists, dancers, etc on a larger scale if any of you have any ideas for an affordable option.
The art show was so beautiful, and I think the Meow Cats could really feel that. In the weeks before the winter break we are going to talk about dragons, read and act out fairy tales, play with castles and knights, and our author for December will be Jan Brett. We’ll dive into winter tales, talk about what animals do in the winter, and if it is cold enough we’ll start to freeze some ice sculptures to play with. Lauren will be back from her big trip, and I think we might spend some time talking about Australia and Tasmania. The older preschool class will be studying maps, so perhaps we can find a way to weave the Australia into some world map making ideas. We’ll see what the Meow Cats think.
I’ve decided that we are going to stop doing a weekly show and share to make space for other activities during that time. I’m thinking of a big group activities that encourage discussion, conversation, and creativity. We’ll have show and share on the first Friday of each month. Show and Share is fun, but the purpose is to encourage conversation and create connections between home and school. Maybe we can weave in some new ideas.
