The Meow Cats finished up their sixth week of school last week. We are a kind and loving group! Last week celebrated our first friend turning four. In our class we hold the earth and walk around the sun singing “…… was born in a circle of the sun, circle of the sun on her/his birthday. ____ was born in a circle of the sun, circle of the sun on her/his birthday.” The child can help set up our birthday ring and we sing Happy Birthday as the Birthday Child blows out the candles. Yes, the candles are real, but I keep them close. It’s magical. I do ask each child how they would like to celebrate and if we may sing to them.
We also made applesauce again, read about Johnny Appleseed, made some paper mosaic apples with black bean apple seeds, and stamped with sliced apples. Ask your child about our apple song? We had a an apple tasting and made a chart of our results. The big result was “We like apples.” We tasted a red, green, and yellow apple and had a nice talk about “tasting with our eyes” and “tasting with our mouth”. Our sweetest apple was yellow, and our tartest apple was green. I bought a new apple peeler this week, so I think we’ll keep cooking.
We made some artwork inspired by the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds and hung them in our classroom in big gold frames. I’ve left the book out nearby if you want to read it. It will be good inspiration for our art show in November.
This week we are starting to talk about pumpkins, fall leaves, acorns, farms, and the harvest season. We’ll see what interests them and go from there. I’m hoping the Brilliant Butterflies invite us to their farmer’s market.
