The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

Meow Cats :: October 18

Dear Meow Cat Families,

We have been meandering through some delightful dramatic play this week, taking turns being the unicorn and the dragon, playing doctor for the unicorn, taking care of our otter, and sitting in our spider’s web. The unicorn was cured with an empty spice box of cream of tartar, and all the doctors sat at the kitchen table to write about it. I was only the observer and photographer.

In between costumed visits to the vet, we have been reading our way through books about fall, pumpkins, and changing leaves. We made leaf insects, painted pumpkin patches, and talked about animals in the fall. We talked about “shelters”…. animal shelters and picnic shelters at the playground. We did our first “shelter in place” drill and they thought it was very funny that we all went into the bathroom with a “picnic blanket” and a flashlight.  I told them we would find a shelter if there was a bad thunderstorm. We have had six fire drills, and the Meow Cats know just how to do it.

I will be out of town on Friday. Lauren will lead the class and the substitute will be a familiar face. Similarly, I have jury duty on Monday. I wrote a letter to a judge explaining how I really needed to be with my class and asked to have jury duty in the summer, but I have not heard back.

Follow our instagram account for daily pictures from the Meow Cats. I’ve been trying to update during my lunch in the afternoon. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
