Music Week Part II

It was an “upbeat” week in the Kindergarten Superstars! We learned more about the sections of a band or orchestra, particularly the brass and woodwind section. The class got to practice their listening skills to hear the difference between the bassoon and the clarinet, or the trumpet and the trombone. They did a great job and it was interesting to hear the reasons behind why students favored certain instruments over others.

The class also had great fun play composer go fish! Not only did they do a great job remembering the names of the composers pictured on the cards, but they showed great skill in remembering who had asked for which card earlier in the round.

For math the class was introduced to the Cuisenaire rods, and enjoyed figuring out how to use them for addition. This week also saw the class practicing the “bossy E” for language arts – words such as came, ride, see, etc.

Finally, the class got to visit the other classrooms this last week! For one visit the superstars read to the HoneyBee class, and for the visit to the Friendly Fox classroom it was to meet Smokey the Bear! The class was extremely excited about this last visit and kept asking “Is he a real bear? Are we going to meet a real bear?!”.
