The Honeybees are having a lovely fall together. We talked about it, and they think that actually winter starts now. We’ll learn about the science of the Solstice as it approaches. We continue to work on ideas and concepts about art, but we are very likely to take many quick turns and incorporate the children’s interests. This past week we were very interested in WHEELS. I have more wheels on the way, and some ideas about creating with wheels. We are seeing more interest in writing letters and are offering opportunities for practice in play dough, Montessori tracing, and free writing. Ask your Honeybee how we write with our magic fingers at circle time as we write both letters and numbers.

We have loved transforming our kitchen into the Brick Pot Pizza Restaurant. I love that they look for the pizza that they made to have just the right toppings. I want to show them that they can make their own toys, their own worlds. Dramatic play enhances cooperation skills, develops self-regulation, and builds vocabulary.

This group loves to share ideas about themselves, but often we don’t want to wait to share individually. We have been using a talking stick to go around the circle and share our ideas. Only the person holding the talking stick can speak. It’s helping us feel heard in the larger group.

When we return to school after Thanksgiving we are reading Phillipe in Monet’s Garden…a story about a French frog who finds a safe place to live in the pond at Giverny. We’ll transform our community painting into Monets Water Lilies and decide how we want to add the bridge.

When we return from Thanksgiving break we’ll welcome our new friend Lyra. She visited earlier in the week, and I think her transition will be fun and gentle.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. I’m so grateful for this little school and for everyone who joins us here. Join us on the Instagram any time, or come here to the website and connect with the pictures that scroll along the bottom.
I’m looking forward to hosting our family Thanksgiving for the first time ever. All five of our kids are coming home. I’m hoping to spend some time knitting in front of a fire. On Friday we are taking all the kids to Whiskey Springs Farm on Glade Road to meet the mini Highland cows. Our two year old grandson is loving farm animals, so he’ll be able to get close to the cows, mini donkeys, and little spotted pigs. Alas, they don’t have his favorite animal, the “Neigh.”
We have one more day of Holiday care tomorrow (Tuesday) from 8:30-4:30 if you need some time. Just email to sign up.
Big Love,
Sally
