It was a wet and wild week here in the Kindergarten Superstars! The class enjoyed several hands on activities to help them learn more about the Ocean and our many friends that live in the deep. Among these was some water activities that illustrated the various zones of the Ocean (Sunlight Zone, Twilight Zone, and Midnight Zone) and which creatures and plants live in each zone. We also discussed the coral reef as well as waterway conservation.
For math, the students took their work with fractions to the next level by making it more concrete through various activities. Since the students thought “adults don’t use math!” I decided to show them some of the ways that adults use fractions in their everyday life by showing the class how to use measuring cups and how this relates to fractions, how to use a ratchet set and how this relates to fractions, and finally how to use a measuring tape and how it relates to fractions.
For language arts the class worked with some new sight words, and are really enjoying their leveled readers!
During the free play this week the class really enjoyed creating a restaurant (a pizza parlour to be specific), as well as engineering a maze designed to test the skills of our class pet, a rabbit named Oreo Cottontail.
That’s it for now! See you at book week next week.
