The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

Preschool Program

Our half-day Preschool Program operates from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM each day. Our full-day program operates from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM (view our daily schedule). Students must be three years old by September 30th of the enrollment year and must be self toileting in order to attend. Children may enroll for two, three, or five days per week.

cg-circleWe encourage children to use their natural abilities to make connections through an interrelated curriculum. Our curriculum features a thematic approach (unit study) in which all aspects of the program function together. For example, a unit on frogs might include reading fictional frog stories and comparing and contrasting the frog characters (language arts), comparing frog sizes or length of jumping abilities (math), frog sculpture (art), learning frog songs (music), imitating frog movement (physical education), and researching facts about frogs (science). The units provide self-directed activities, exploration and discovery with concrete materials, child initiated play, and teacher directed discussions. The unit system begins with areas familiar to the young child. Additional units are developed as the teachers become familiar with the interests, learning styles, and abilities of the children. Our approach encourages children to appreciate the unique yet related aspects of our world.

Each day the children participate in various activities integrated with the learning unit. Activities are designed to involve each of the five senses and to facilitate visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning. These include art activities designed to encourage creative expression, enhance small muscle development, and provide opportunities to experiment and create with various media. Music is integrated as well, offering enjoyment, social experience, and cultural appreciation. Dance and movement provide opportunities for group interaction, social development, large muscle development and relaxation.

If you are interested in enrolling your child in our Preschool Program, we encourage you to contact us to schedule a time to visit the school. You may click on the link below to download an application form.
