The Bluebirds :: Spring Activities

Hello, Amazing Bluebird Families!

Here are some optional activities for this Thursday and Friday, as spring arrives.

Bluebirds At Home – Optional Learning Activities for March 19 – 20, 2020
1. Calendar and Weather Activities:
• Look at a calendar and discuss the day of the week and date of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
• Count out 19 items or 20 items.
• Make $0.19 or $0.20 with change.
• Discuss how many tens and ones are in 19 or 20.
• Discuss some number combinations (addition problems) that equal 19 or 20.
• Record the outside temperature to compare throughout the day or from day to day.

2. Thursday is the first day of spring! Take a nature walk. Look, listen, hear, and smell signs of spring! If you see a robin, watch it for a while. For the first time ever, I recently saw a robin pull a worm right out of the ground! It was so fascinating!

3. Discuss some things that happen in spring:
• The earth’s axis starts to tilt toward the sun.
• The days get longer and warmer.
• Many animals have babies.
• Animals who hibernated start to wake up and become active again.
• Birds who migrated south for winter return.
• Plants start growing again.

9. Plant a seed and watch it grow! (You don’t have to buy seeds. Plant them from your food!)

10. Make spring flowers with pipe cleaners for stems and muffin/cupcake liners for the petals!
