The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

The Bluebirds :: St. Patrick’s Day Activities

Hello, Beloved Bluebird Families!

I am missing your children and wanted to post some activities that might help your family through these days of school closure. Please know that this list is not mandatory homework to be checked off or turned in whenever we return to school. These are simply ideas to help your child remain connected to The Children’s Garden and continue some fun learning and exploring during this time of social distancing. Please don’t let this be a burden, just use these ideas as you wish and if you wish, to benefit your family. I will send another email Wednesday night or Thursday morning with activities for Thursday and Friday. I will also be mailing a packet to your child with some more fun activities they may enjoy. It should arrive by the end of this week. Virtual hugs to you all!

Wishing you peace and wellness,

Anna

Tuesday, March 17 & Wednesday, March 18
1. Calendar and Weather Activities:
• Look at a calendar and discuss the day of the week and date of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
• Count out 17 items or 18 items.
• Make $0.17 or $0.18 with change.
• Discuss how many tens and ones are in 17 or 18.
• Discuss some number combinations (addition problems) that equal 17 or 18.
• Record the outside temperature to compare throughout the day or from day to day.

2. Read or watch videos of the following St. Patrick’s Day books:
• St. Patrick’s Day by Anne Rockwell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjBkKf79MXI#action=share
• There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover! By Lucille Colandro:

3. Make a shamrock! Fold a piece of paper in half. On the fold, draw half of a shamrock. Cut along the line. Open the paper up. It should be a full shamrock. Color or decorate your shamrock as you desire with supplies you have at home.

4. Go outside and look for a clover or a rainbow. Play while you are out there!

5. Draw, color, paint, or create a collage of a rainbow (with or without a pot of gold at the end).

6. Play I SPY with all the colors of the rainbow.

7. Watch a Virtual Tour of Ireland: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZdJLHxsQiY#action=share

8. Learn to do the Irish Jig: https://youtu.be/UklnEUrfW7w

9. Mixing Colors – yellow and blue make green:
• Add food coloring to water in 2 cups: 1 yellow and 1 blue. Have your child measure out some water from the blue cup into the empty cup and then measure the same amount of yellow into the empty cup and watch the water turn green!
• This could also be done with watercolor paints on paper.

10. Make Shamrock Soft Pretzels:
1 pkg. yeast dissolved in 1 ½ cups warm water
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
4 cups flour
1 egg
Coarse salt
Mix and knead dough until smooth, adding more flour if dough is sticky. Roll into snakes and shape into shamrocks. Place on a greased cookie sheet. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake at 425 degrees for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown. Cool and enjoy!
