Hello, Bluebird Families!
This week we began studying volcanos. Before we started, I reassured the children that they did not need to be scared of volcanos popping up in their backyard. I explained that there are not any volcanos near where we live, that it takes time for volcanos to develop, and that there are scientists who study the earth to know when and where volcanos are rumbling. We then read so many books about volcanos to confirm this! We learned the difference between active and dormant volcanos, as well as magma vs. lava. We discovered that volcanos create new land, for example underwater volcanos have created islands, like Hawaii. We studied several maps, learning about plate techtonics and the ring of fire. We made volcano collages, using streamers for the erupting lava. We also created our own volcanos with air dry clay and are patiently waiting for them to dry so we can paint them next week. We also enjoyed celebrating a half birthday with one of our bluebirds on Friday.
Thanks for sharing your children with me!
