Hello, Bluebird Families!
We have been in maker mode this week, as we continue to get ready for the art show! You can view our art with your child as you bring him to school or pick him up from school on Thursday, the 21st and Friday, the 22nd. Please remember: school closes at 12:00 on Friday, November 22nd for Thanksgiving break and will re-open on Monday, December 2nd for our regular schedule.
We finished reading Charlotte’s Web this week and were sad to say goodbye to some of our favorite characters! You know it’s a good book when you want the story to keep going! There were a few days when we asked if we could just start it over again, we loved it so much!
We read An Eye for Color: The Story of Josef Albers and then created our own Albers Squares. We loved making these and were so confident in our color choices! They all look amazing! We can’t wait for you to see them!
We read Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett and had a fascinating discussion! We noticed how the main character shared her thoughts and feelings with others through creating art. We witnessed how her art changed her town and the thoughts and feelings of the townspeople. Art is powerful! Then we created our own yarn art!
We read The Noisy Paint Box: The Colors and Sounds of Kandinsky’s Abstract Art by Barb Rosenstock. We learned that Kandinsky heard colors! He tried to paint what others wanted him to paint and was even good at it, but it brought him no joy. As he sat at the opera, he could hear and see the colors come alive in his mind and knew he had to paint his own way! We listened to opera music and even watched a few videos of opera singers breaking glass with their strong voices! (Just warning you now…the children want to try this at home!) Then we made our own abstract art as we listened to music!
Thank you for sharing your children with me!
Anna
