Dear Brilliant Butterflies Families,
We have been having a great time finishing up our outer space unit! The children got to practice sewing some constellations, made a class book about what they know about outer space, and painted beautiful planets for our dramatic play center! They have been acting out trips to the moon and having so much fun together!
We have now shifted our studies on to dinosaurs! Many of the children have been interested in dinosaurs all year, so we decided to dive right in. We started with exploring many different types of dinosaurs in books, songs, and figurines. We sorted dinosaurs by different features such as, meat eaters and plant eaters, walking on two legs or four legs, etc. We learned that dinosaurs laid eggs in nests, but that there aren’t any alive today. We measured how long a stegosaurus would have been on our classroom floor with tape (30 feet long!) The children and teachers were amazed! We have been singing some fun dinosaur songs and even got to dig for fossils like real paleontologists!
This week we will be taking some time to learn about the children’s favorite dinosaurs, the T-rex and triceratops, as well as, learning about some prehistoric creatures who could swim and fly! We have been working on our ABC wall chart and have been loving our time in the “Writing Room” with friends, journals, and pencils.
Thank you to all of you who I have already met with for conferences, and I look forward to talking with the rest of you this week. We have a wonderful group of families and children to work with and are so proud of each child!
Thanks so much,
Hannah, Wynne, and Shelby 🙂
