Hello, Friendly Fox Families!
We had another wonderful week together. It was a more free-form time for us, as we found ourselves reading the energy of the children and the day and we found ourselves happily changing all our plans to go with the flow. It worked out really well for us, and seemed to be just what we needed! This involved mixing up the schedule when we noticed that bad weather was approaching to ensure that we could still have plenty of time to play outside – always a priority for us. We saw so much rain that we have a really fun muddy river flowing through the playground! The children had a wonderful time playing in the mud and wet sand; they were very creative and collaborated well to make a “muck soup waterfall.” We are still noticing all the changes that Autumn brings. We read “Wonderfall” and then painted some beautiful fall leaves for our windows. We also went out to collect some of the gorgeous pine cones that are falling all around our school and enjoyed painting them with glittery colors. We also said goodbye to our class pumpkin, which began to deteriorate very quickly! We read one of my favorite books, “Mousekin’s Golden House,” about a little mouse who survives the winter by making a sweet home out of a discarded pumpkin. This book belonged to my own children and I adore sharing it with my class.
November brings us to one of our favorite times of year, our month of Art studies. We begin by reading books about creativity and color, imagination and innovation. This week we read “A Color of His Own” by Leo Lionni about a chameleon who ultimately learns to love the way he can move through life changing color because he finds a friend to be by his side. We are talking about the Art Show and how wonderful it will be to share all of our beautiful creations with our families.
This coming week we will be diving deeper into our Art studies. We have many wonderful activities ahead! We will begin by introducing primary colors, and then we will make our own secondary colors. We will also be reading another one of my favorite books, coincidentally about a mouse. At first his community doesn’t see how he is contributing by being an artist, but in the end his artistic mind rather saves the day! I have more ideas for this unit than time, so this is why we do so much art all year long, every single day. It is such an important part of school, and such a wonderfully fun, satisfying, soothing opportunity to create. We love Art!
Thank you for all you do!Wynne, Nancy, and Christina
