The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

The Friendly Foxes :: Week 14

Hello, Friendly Fox Families!
I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Fall Break together! We have had a wonderful week back at school. The children were all so happy to see one another and have been playing beautifully together. Thank you again for making your child feel celebrated by visiting our Art Show! We will be making portfolios next week and will be sending much of the art materials home. Many of the children have told me that they are going to turn their own bedrooms into an Art Show or a museum once they bring it all home. This is music to my ears, as it just shows how much they enjoyed the art unit and how proud they are of their creations!
This week we thoroughly enjoyed reading a book a day (some of my own personal favorites) which were perfect for a full morning of activities tied to each book. Monday was “Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza” day, with pizza crafts, alphabet games, and playing Pizza Restaurant with a brick pizza oven. Tuesday was “Not a Box” day, with our own not-a-box art, pounding pegs into boxes we colored, building Lego boxes for bunnies like the character in the book, and giant box building. Wednesday was “Sofia Valdez, Future Prez” day (thank you, Lynley’s family!), a book with wonderful messages about the power of community and what one child can accomplish if you are brave and believe in yourself. We were inspired to make our “Future Selves” and even cut some fabric clothing for our paper selves, as well as building some various types of parks as the characters in the book did. Thursday was “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” day, complete with building our own coconut alphabet trees to take home, playing with Chicka alphabet sensory bins, magnet letters, play mats and a dice rolling game. Today we read “How to Catch a Star” and made beautiful watercolor star creations, caught stars in water bins, and made star creations on the light table. The children thoroughly enjoyed this week!
Next week we will be starting an Outer Space unit. I loaded us up with wonderful library books, have loads of fun activities planned, and I just turned our tree tent into a Reading Rocket Ship!

See you next week!Wynne Nancy & Christina
