Dear Friendly Fox Families,
Hooray for a perfectly timed snow event, just as we are discussing the science of snow in class! This week we continued our Winter theme with lots of fun and engaging activities.
We read an amazing book entitled “The Story of Snow: The Science of Winter’s Wonder” and were able to see some beautiful photos of crystals, as well as discuss the different types of formations. We were even able to go on a real snowflake hunt with magnifying glass outdoors during some flurries! We also played with a various “snow” sensory materials and played a fun new snowman dice/counting game. We played with ice and water, revealed secret messages with frozen paint, and made “W” is for Winter collages. We also added a new Winter poem to our special journals.
We also began our Animals in Winter theme. Together we created a big Winter scene on our wall where we will be adding creatures as we discuss Winter animal behaviors. We read a book on the subject and then made our own copies to take home and share with our families.

We had fun reading Jan Brett’s “The Mitten” and making our own interactive game to follow along with the book and to take home and share. We had a lovely music class with Ms. Marci and a wonderful story session with Storyman Bob.
This coming week we will be learning about hibernation and adaptation and playing outside in the real snow! Please make sure your child has warm outdoor gear, especially ***gloves/mittens***. We’ve had a number of children requesting more food recently, so please also check in with your child to be sure that they feel they have enough to eat at snack and lunch.
Thank you for everything!
Wynne, Sadée, and Lori
P.S. Attached is a photo of snowflakes on our sidewalk for your child to inspect for six-pointed flakes for fun!
