The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

The Friendly Foxes :: Week 19

Hello, Friendly Fox Families!
What a wonderful week we’ve had with our Jan Brett books theme! We are reading our way through many of her beautifully written and illustrated books, and are enjoying them so very much. The children are listening so intently to the stories and are thoroughly enjoying the projects that we are doing with each one.
We started off with “The Mitten” and had a great time acting out the story with real stuffed animals and a mitten. We loved making our own mitten and animals to act out the story and take home to share with our families. We learned a sweet mitten finger play to go along with this, and played a fun mitten cover-up game with sparkly sequins – always a big hit! We really loved reading “Hedgie Blasts Off,” and had a blast making our own Hedgies in rockets to play with at home! We loved playing in our outer space sensory bins with flowers from the planet Mikkop and little Hedgies and rockets. Next, we read “The Three Snow Bears” and did some fun “I is for Ice and Igloo” paint block stamping, and played with Aloo-ki and three bears in wintery snow bins. Perhaps our favorite part of this day was having a sweet tea party for some stuffed animals. The children were so delighted with this, so careful with the tea set, and their conversations were adorable! We also read “The Hat,” which we loved. We made our own Hedgies with sock hats to take home, and got to paint with forks! We played a fun animal matching game together. We even gave some animals a bath in some fun soapy sensory bins! Today was my personal favorite, reading “Mossy.” It is such a sweet story with an important message about letting wild animals be wild forever. We had a lovely time planting some Mossy turtle gardens with real  seeds, which we will watch as they grow in our sunny window. We also made some beautiful Mossy turtle creations with lots of beautiful moss, flowers, and sequins. We did all of these things and many other fun activities! As always, we enjoyed our Music time with Marci and our Story time with Bob.
Next week we will begin our Arctic region theme. I have lots of fun activities planned for this unit! We will also continue to read Jan Brett books and will be brainstorming what we want to say in our letter to her.
Thank you for all you do!
