Hello, Friendly Fox Families!
We have had a lovely time learning all about the Antarctic region and the creatures who live there. We have been looking at the globe every day and remembering all the magnificent creatures that live up in the Arctic Circle, and that penguins and polar bears will never meet because they live on opposite sides of the earth! We talked about the seven different species of penguins and what makes each one unique. We certainly made the most of a short school week!
We had so much fun learning about Macaroni Penguins! We loved watching how funny they can be when they play, looked up close at their fabulous yellow eye feathers, read a great book about them, had a blast making noodle Macaroni Penguins from play dough, and even our own noodle Macaroni Penguin craft! We learned all about Emperor penguins, such as how tall they can be (even taller than some of us!) and how the daddies care for the babies while the mommies go out fishing, up to fifty miles away! We learned a sweet baby penguin song, made some hatching penguin chick 3-D puppets, played a fun feed-the-penguin game and a fun mitten-matching game.
We learned all about Orca Whales and how they care for their babies, then we made our own silly Orca puppets to take home. We played with penguins in fluffy shaving cream bins, had a grand time in our construction zone working on our Teacher Christina statue sculpture, made some sweet little recycled-material winter cabins, built iceberg patterns for our penguins to play upon, added our sweet baby penguin song to our special journals and so much more! As always we enjoyed our Music time with Marci and our story time with Bob.
Next week we will be learning all about the Owls of Virginia. I have loads of fun activities planned for the next couple of weeks!
Thank you for sharing your sweet children with us!
Warmly, Wynne, Nancy and Christina
