The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

The Friendly Foxes :: Week 9

Hello, Friendly Fox Families!
What a wonderful week of Pumpkin studies and fun we have had! We are also still enjoying this gorgeous Autumn we are having along with the mild weather. The children seem very comfortable and settled at school and some don’t even want to leave at the end of the day! We are grateful for this lovely bunch of sweet ones.
We are thoroughly enjoying decorating our room with all the beautiful art that we are making with each unit. This week we made our own pumpkins to put in our little pumpkin patch, made some paper bag pumpkins to take home, and even cut apart our special names and glued them back together in order in the shape of a pumpkin. We read some lovely books about Autumn and pumpkins, and the life cycle of pumpkins. We even made our own “How a Pumpkin Grows” sequencing take-home books! The children seemed very proud of these. We have been practicing some sweet rhymes together, including our “Five Little Pumpkins” song which we added to our special journals. We scrubbed our real pumpkin squeaky clean with toothbrushes, cut it open and delighted in sorting out the insides. Hundreds of seeds were in there! We then carved it into a Friendly Fox face, of course!  We played with lots of small world pumpkin sensory bins, built pumpkin patterns with unifix cubes and dot markers, completed some fun letter “P” hunt and so much more! Friday was our annual in-school Fall Festival and the children were thrilled with all of the special games and activities, especially hunting for their very own little pumpkin in our “pumpkin patch” outside. As always, we enjoyed our music time with Marci and our story time with Bob.
As we look toward November, we will start thinking about our annual Art Show. This is a special unit for our whole school in which each class will delve into the wonderful world of diverse art and artists. We take up-close looks at artists and how unique the style of each can be. We will be making many of our own creations and saving them to put on display the last few days before Thanksgiving Break. Your family will get a special invitation from you child later this month with details.
Please remember, we do not allow candy or costumes at school at any time, and remember to dress your child warmly as the weather begins to change. We take all the children outdoors all year – hooray for fresh air and free play!
Thank you for all you do!Wynne, Nancy, and Christina
