We squeezed a lot of fun things into this past week of school. We continued our Winter Animal Behavior unit by studying hiberation and adaptation. We learned about hibernation and discovered that bears experience their own form of hibernation called torpor! We learned about hibernating spotted salamanders and green northern frogs. We made did some fun sleeping bear, salamander and frog crafts. We then looked at animal Winter
adaptations and talked about animals that adapt. We learned about how Snowshoe Hares grow a thick white coat. The children thought that it was hilarious that they grow a coat! We also learned all about Pikas and their behaviors. We enjoyed pretending to act out their way of harvesting foods and listening to audio of their calls. We also created some of both creatures to hang on our beautiful bulletin board.
We enjoyed playing with lots of Winter sensory materials and played some snow-themed math games. We learned a hibernation rhyme and added a copy to our special journals. We also enjoyed our Music time with Marci and Storytime with Bob.

This week we will be learning about caves and bats. We have lots of fun activities planned for this unit! It will be very cold this week so please make sure to continue sending warm items especially gloves or mittens for your child.

Thank you so much!
