Hello, Friendly Fox Families!
We’ve had a wonderful week learning all about nocturnal and diurnal animals. We really focused quite a bit on nocturnal foxes, since we are the Friendly Foxes! We learned lots of fascinating facts about foxes, such as how they can climb trees, what excellent hunters they are, what type of dens in which they sleep, how many kits they might have, how their special pupils allow light in, how they are solitary, and so much more. We even learned that the are truly considered friendly in the natural world, just like we are! We even added a special Friendly Little Fox poem to our special journals today.
We read some great books, our favorite of which was “Daylight Starlight Wildlife” by Wendell Minor. We discussed how lots of different nocturnal creatures are awake only at night, and how diurnal creatures are usually active during the day, like us! We played with some nocturnal animals in sensory bins, played in the dark with light boxes, made patterns together, introduced a letter game, Mr. Munch, who loves to eat our alphabet soup, made lots of different fox crafts, and so much more! We are really enjoying being outside as much as we can while summer lasts, so we’ve even taken a couple of activities outside.
We enjoyed our wonderful music class with Marci, as well as story time with Bob. We held our first fire drill, which was a great success! The children did a wonderful job listening and walking safely. We also all placed our hands on our special class agreements sign (now hanging near the calendar) which reminds us to be safe and kind. We truly see that the children are already so wonderfully kind and gentle with one another. Thank you for being such great partners in this with us!
Next week we will have Entomology week. Thanks to Sally’s dedicated scouting skills, we are so excited to have four monarch caterpillars munching away in our classroom! We will watch those closely and learn about many other interesting insects.
Thank you for a wonderful week!
