We certainly squeezed a lot of fun into this unexpectedly short week at school! We hope you were able to stay cozy and safe during the ice storm. It was beautiful to behold, yet very slippery out where I live all day long! The children certainly enjoyed playing out in the snow on the playground this week. It was a joy to watch them frolicking among the flakes!
This week we began our Outer Space Unit and it is off to a great start! We began with “Mae Among the Stars,” a book about a young girl who dreamed of becoming an astronaut, and despite being told she should pick another career, she grew up to achieve her dream! I gave the children the letters of their names and they built them into rocket ship puzzles, we built unifix cube rocket ships, and even listened to stories in our Reading Rocket with flashlights! We read another wonderful book about Space Travel and then had a wonderful time building our own control panel with lots of recycled electronic parts. We built magnatile rockets and illuminated them with lights, and built tall rockets with our straws and connectors. One day we made our own space suit vests to wear while we play in our Space Station, played a really fun group memory game with matching Outer Space images on them, and played with some really fun Outer Space small world sensory bins. We also celebrated three Friendly Fox birthdays this week! We also enjoyed our Story Time with Bob on Thursday.
Next week we will continue our Outer Space studies, and I have loads of fun activities planned! Please join us in wishing Nancy and Christina in celebrating their birthdays this week as well! We will also have Music class with Marci twice this week. Looking ahead, school closes this Friday at noon for all students for Winter Break and reopens Monday January 6th.
