It’s been a fast five days here in the Art Factory. We have learned about Yayoi Kusama, Jasper Johns, Dale Chihuly, and Jackson Pollock. We have tried to define art in a broad way and talked about the children’s own personal art. I like to call it “making.” I show them the process, and the results are what they make it.
This year I haven’t had every child do each project. If they want to keep playing, I let them make the choice. We’ve also made several collaborative pieces. We watched an interesting dance video and talked about performance as art.

We approach each art project via process. This week we have been printing, slinging, and moving. Tonight I’m even heating one of our projects to see what happens. We started assembling our robot sculpture today. We are really looking forward to sharing our art with you at our Annual Art Show on Thursday and Friday of next week. You are welcome to bring family and friends at nine each day and at pickup time. Remember that Friday is a half day for us. Art will go home after the Thanksgiving Break.
I was surprised and excited that one of our Honeybees came to school today dressed as Yayoi Kusama. This is the video we watched about her.
The Honey Bees will continue with these kind of art projects throughout the year. I had so many ideas that we didn’t get to complete in November. We haven’t even read Phillipe in Monet’s Garden yet!
I’ve been enjoying having formal conference time with you. If you haven’t signed up there is always time. The sign up forms are outside the door.
We went on our first snowflake hike of the year on Tuesday. My weather policy is just one of common sense. We’ll try to always go out if it isn’t pouring rain, so make sure your child has the right gear. Sometimes we’ll just take a walk on the trails near the school or run on our hill. Ten minutes of recess can be very good for our day.
