Our week was so lively in the Honey Bee class with butterflies and chicks. We released five butterflies over two days and hatched three out of seven eggs. The butterflies were kind enough to sit on all of our fingers the first day we released them, and the children were amazed that they were actually holding butterflies. A few kids were able to see chicks emerging, and this week I’ll show them a video that Wynne took of one of them emerging from it’s shell. We have a Rhode Island Red, a Partridge Rock, and a Black Australorp. This week we’ll read a few more chick stories and get a chance to actually hold our chicks.
We had an exciting time with Danny McKeague, Lynley’s dad, and Smokey the Bear. He read us the Smokey the Bear Story for all of us and then brought Smokey into the school. Smokey is celebrating his 75th year helping to teach children about taking care of the forest, and we had a great time shaking his hand, giving him high fives, and asking him a lot of questions.
The class has settled on a book to perform for our play, and this week we’ll be deciding how to act it out and working on our scenery and props.
Last week we enjoyed Bob and Marci, and this week we’ll have Marci on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
Thanks for all of you who signed up for conferences. If you haven’t, there is still time. I’m also available during our teacher workdays at the end of next week.
