The Honey Bees continued some fun counting by putting ten apples up on top of their own heads. They are up in the hall if you haven’t taken a look.
We are still working on identifying our own name… or “finding our letter”. We followed the glue lines and filled in our letters with spangles and glitter in a fairly glorious take home project.
We are collecting acorns for the small forest we are planting this week. We have talked about conifer seeds, acorns, and the pumpkin seeds we scooped out of our pumpkin. We’ll read some books about seeds and trees this week. I carved our big pumpkin into “Quiet Kitty”. We’ll keep her for a few days before she goes outside to our little garden so we can watch it slowly decompose over the winter.
I’d also like to learn about the life cycle of the woolly bear caterpillar this week and make some Isabella Tiger Moths. November is our art focused month at the Children’s Garden. You will be receiving an invitation to our annual art show, and some of our projects might become just a little bit secret! We’ll try to define art in our own way and explore what we want to make. We’ll study several famous artists and investigate our own interpretations of well known pieces. I like to let the kids make several large collaborative pieces as well as some take home portfolios.
I’m looking for some very “robot” type recyclables to use in a group sculpture if you want to scan your garage or recycling bin.
We closed out the week with a beautiful fall inspired process art piece and then our fall festival. We enjoyed pumpkin bowling, rolling our pumpkins down the hill, playing with gooey slime, reading fall stories, a pumpkin bean bag toss, and very yummy pumpkin bread, popcorn, clementine pumpkins, and apple cider. Carrigan’s family made us homemade apple sauce which I accidentally left in the fridge, so we’ll have that with our Monday snack if it is alright with you parents.
