The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

The Honeybees :: Week 17

Fee Fi Fo Fum, we’ve been listening to an audiobook and talking about Jack and the Beanstalk. We’ve been playing in the castle, hiding the golden eggs, and wondering why Jack climbed the beanstalk in the first place. We talked about the order of things that appear in the story… Milky White the cow, the bag of gold, the golden egg, and then the magical harp. Are there really giants? How do you grow a beanstalk?

We have also been making the alphabet for our wall. Some of us are expressing an interest in letters, so we are going to make them all to put on our wall. We made A, B, C, E, F and H this week using a variety of media and techniques. We’ll keep working on this community project.

We’ve been watching the changes in our new hydroponic garden. During week two we could take the tops off of the pods to allow the leaves to continue to grow. Candace came in to play out the story of photosynthesis with a marble run. Check out the video on Instagram if you haven’t already. “Energy up!”

This week is short, and we’ll be blasting off into outer space before Friday. We’ll learn about the planets, the moon, space travel, stars, the International space station, and the asteroid belt.
