We are hovering in outer space as some of our friends have been out sick this week, and by hovering I mean playing in our rocketship, making beautiful galactic art while listening to experimental jazz, and learning new building techniques from our visiting kindergarten friends.
We talked about the moon this week, exploring kinetic sand, “moon rocks,” astronauts, and moon rovers. We talked about the next mission to the moon, NASA’s Artemis project, and did some jumping on the moon with our first exploration of 25 pounds of clay.
We read “Mae Among the Stars” by Roda Ahmed, a picture book inspired by the life of the first African-American woman to travel in space. She wanted to wave to her parents on Earth from outer space… and she did.
Later in the week we read Hedgie Blasts Off by Jan Brett and played in sensory bins with spacey black beans, tiny planets, a rocket ship, a tiny Hedgehog, and all kinds of flowers. Ask your Honeybee what happened to the volcano, Big Sparkler, on the tiny planet of Mikkop.
