The Children's Garden

Wisdom begins with wonder

The Meow Cats :: April 22

The Meow Cats have continued to play in outer space this week. They had so many ideas about what you need to think about when you are building a rocket ship. I cut a door in our ship and they have gracefully worked out a lot of turn taking. One of my friends knew they needed a space helmet and made one in the art center, passing it from person to person saying, “you are going to need this.” They built chairs “like a space car seat” and dragged in the abacus as a control panel. The occasional stuffed animal has traveled with them, and on Friday they sent the babies on a solo mission.

We have also talked and read stories about animals who lay eggs. Our fertile hatching eggs could arrive any day this week. We are going to put twelve eggs in the incubators. On the day that they arrive we will make a list of their colors and what kind of chicken they are. The company pencils in the breed on the egg.

Our annual Science Expo is Thursday and Friday of this week. Our families are invited to come in at drop off to let your child give you a tour of some of the ideas we have been exploring in our class. Friends and grandparents are welcome to come. You are welcome to come at dismissal time as well, but in the morning we have experiments and stations running that they can share.  On Monday we are going to listen to a Rosie Revere Engineer being read by an astronaut in on the International Space Station.  We have learned some very spacey songs about the planets, and will string up the asteroid belt in the next few days.

I’ll put up a sign up sheet for conferences on Monday, and I’m looking forward to talking to you about your child.
